| | | Marshall E. Brown is Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Gale Smith + Company, Inc. and serves on the management committee of the firm as well as the Board of Directors. He heads the firm’s Truck Insurance Unit. He joined Gale Smith + Company, Inc. in 1983. His twenty-three year insurance career has been devoted to marketing truck insurance throughout the State of Tennessee.
Prior to entering the insurance business he began his career with the State of Tennessee in 1971. He was appointed assistant to the Commissioner for Finance of the Department of Finance and Administration and headed the Management Services Division. While with the State of Tennessee he served as Secretary of the State Insurance Committee that oversees the State’s group insurance program for its employees.
Mr. Brown holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and has been a member of the national faculty for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. He taught in the Society’s Truckers’ Ruble Seminar. Mr. Brown is a long time member of the Tennessee Trucking Association and the Council of Safety Managers. He has been active with the Association in teaching various classes relating to auto insurance and workers compensation coverage.
Along with Brentwood Services, Inc., Mr. Brown worked to establish the Tennessee Trucking Association Self-Insurance Group in 1995. The TTASIG was active through 1997 in offering workers compensation coverage to small to medium size trucking companies through out the State of Tennessee.
Mr. Brown has been active in church and community affairs in Nashville. He has been Blood Services Chairman of the Nashville Chapter of the American Red Cross as well as chairing the Development Committee of Bethlehem Centers, a United Methodist Neighborhood Center. Mr. Brown teaches a Sunday school Class as well as serving as the lay leader at Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1969 with a BS degree with a dual major in insurance and finance. He did graduate work at UT with a major in finance and economics.
